Ground Stone Crafting

To make Ground Stone in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, put regular Stone into a Grindstone. Each Stone produces 5 Ground Stone. The important catch is that the Grindstone does not unlock through Bronze progression alone: Granite must enter your inventory first. Find Granite around the western or northwestern edge of the Fractured Plains, where the region meets the Stormtouched Highlands, and mine it with a Bronze Pickaxe or better.

After the recipe unlocks, build the Grindstone with 18 Stone, 12 Oak Logs, 6 Iron Bars, and 12 Granite. Place it somewhere without a roof above it, then load it with Stone. Ground Stone is primarily needed alongside Ground Sandstone for Power Level 2 cottage walls, fences, door frames, window frames, and roof-support pieces.

Ground Stone at a Glance

Ground Stone is powdered Stone rather than a material gathered directly from a special Ground Stone deposit. Ordinary Stone is the input; the Grindstone is the conversion station. This distinction matters because collecting more Stone will not solve the problem when the station itself is absent from the Build Menu.

There are also two related unlocks that are easy to confuse. Discovering Stone is associated with the Ground Stone resource, but receiving Granite in your inventory unlocks the Grindstone needed to produce it. If you can find Stone but cannot place the required station, Granite is the missing progression trigger to check.

The output ratio also changes how you should read building costs. A wall that asks for 2 Ground Stone does not consume 2 ordinary Stone. One Stone becomes 5 Ground Stone, so a single processing operation covers that part of the recipe and leaves 3 Ground Stone for another piece.

Get Granite to Unlock the Grindstone

Granite is the key that turns this from an unexplained missing recipe into a straightforward crafting task. Reaching the Bronze Age by itself is not the documented unlock condition. The Grindstone appears after Granite has actually entered your inventory.

Use the regional boundary to search for Granite.

Use this route:

1. Prepare a Bronze Pickaxe or a stronger pickaxe. Bone and Stone variants cannot mine the Granite nodes described in the supplied research.
2. Travel through the Fractured Plains and work toward its western or northwestern boundary with the Stormtouched Highlands.
3. Search the edge of the higher-level region rather than assuming you must explore deep into it. Granite has been documented near this transition.
4. Look for darker stone boulders. They can be less obvious from a distance than more visually distinct ore deposits.
5. Mine a Granite node and make sure the Granite enters your inventory. That inventory event is the unlock requirement recorded for the Grindstone.
6. Collect at least 12 Granite if you intend to build the station immediately, because the Grindstone itself consumes 12 Granite.

Granite deposits appear as dark stone boulders.

The surrounding enemies can be dangerous when you first reach this boundary. You only need the resource and its unlock trigger, so there is no requirement to clear or thoroughly explore the Stormtouched Highlands before returning to your base. Approach the border prepared to mine the node and leave if the area is beyond your current equipment.

Rocksplosion can speed up mining Granite, but it does not replace the tool requirement. You still need a Bronze Pickaxe or better for the node. If the spell is available but the Granite cannot be harvested, verify the equipped pickaxe before looking for a different unlock condition.

Location descriptions in the available material use both western Fractured Plains and Stormtouched Highlands. The practical target is their shared transition: move toward the western or northwestern side of the Fractured Plains and inspect the Granite-bearing edge of the Highlands. This is more useful than treating the two region names as separate, unrelated destinations.

Build the Grindstone Correctly

Once Granite has entered your inventory, open the Build Menu and find the Grindstone in the crafting and material-processing collection. Building one requires Construction level 12 and the following materials:

The placed Grindstone must have no roof above it.

The Granite used to trigger the unlock is not a separate bonus supply. If you collect exactly 12 Granite and keep it, that same amount covers the station's Granite cost. You must still bring the remaining Stone, Oak Logs, and Iron Bars before placing it.

Placement matters. The Grindstone must not have a roof above it to function. An uncovered yard beside your workshop is therefore a safer location than the interior of a completed house. It can be outside, so you do not need to enlarge your building merely to accommodate the station.

If the Grindstone can be placed but does not operate, inspect the space directly above it. A station under a roof is a placement problem, not evidence that you need another quest, a higher Artisan level, or a second discovery. Move or rebuild it in an uncovered position before gathering more materials.

The Grindstone processes more than Stone. It can also grind Sandstone and Granite, among other later materials. That makes it a reusable processing station rather than a one-purpose structure, but ordinary Stone remains the only input for the Ground Stone recipe covered here.

Turn Stone into Ground Stone

With a working Grindstone, the actual conversion is simple:

1. Collect ordinary Stone from loose ground pickups or Stone nodes.
2. Interact with the uncovered Grindstone.
3. Select the Ground Stone recipe.
4. Load Stone into the station.
5. Start processing and collect the resulting Ground Stone.

The Grindstone converts 1 Stone into 5 Ground Stone.

Every 1 Stone produces exactly 5 Ground Stone. The listed recipe has no Artisan level requirement beyond level 0 and awards 0 experience, so grinding Stone is a material-processing step rather than a leveling method.

The station processes slowly. Keep it supplied while you perform other base tasks, or fill it before sleeping. The documented behavior allows a whole stack of Stone to be processed instantly when handled around sleep, making that an efficient option when a larger construction project needs repeated batches.

Because each input becomes five output items, the number of inventory items expands quickly even though Ground Stone stacks to 99. Plan storage space before converting a large Stone supply. For example, 20 Stone produces 100 Ground Stone, which exceeds one 99-item stack by a single item. Smaller batches may be easier to store while you are still collecting Ground Sandstone and timber for the same building project.

Use the conversion ratio to avoid grinding blindly:

The extra output is not wasted if you continue building with the same cottage set. Store the remainder and count it before starting the Grindstone again. This prevents a common cycle in which the player processes another full batch for a small shortage and then fills storage with avoidable surplus.

Use Ground Stone in Power Level 2 Building

Ground Stone is paired with Ground Sandstone across the documented Power Level 2 cottage pieces. It is not a substitute for Ground Sandstone: when a recipe lists both, you must provide both resources. Ground Sandstone is made separately by putting Sandstone into the Grindstone, with 1 Sandstone producing 5 Ground Sandstone.

Ash Planks and Oak Logs are also present in these documented cottage recipes. Ground Stone alone therefore does not complete a wall even after it has been processed successfully. If a piece remains unavailable or incomplete, read its full Build Menu cost and check Ground Sandstone, Ash Planks, and Oak Logs rather than producing more Ground Stone automatically.

For material planning, count the exact building pieces in your intended layout and total the Ground Stone column. Then divide that total by five and round up to find the number of ordinary Stone processing operations. A layout needing 11 Ground Stone requires 3 Stone in the Grindstone and produces 15 Ground Stone, leaving 4 for later pieces. Repeat the same calculation separately for Ground Sandstone because the two resources cannot replace one another.

The cost groups also show why smaller pieces do not always follow a perfectly uniform rule. Most listed small or medium pieces use 1 Ground Stone, but both Medium 45-degree roof-support variants use 2. Check the selected piece instead of assuming every structure with Medium in its name has the lower material cost.

Fix Missing Recipes and Processing Problems

Use the symptom that matches what you see in the game.

The Grindstone is absent from the Build Menu

Obtain Granite and make sure at least one piece enters your inventory. Bronze progression, a stockpile of Stone, and a need for cottage walls do not replace this discovery trigger. If another player mined the node in a cooperative world, confirm that your own inventory received the material.

The Granite node cannot be mined

Equip a Bronze Pickaxe or better. Bone and Stone pickaxes are not sufficient for the Granite nodes described in the research. Rocksplosion may make mining faster, but it still requires the correct pickaxe tier.

Granite is difficult to locate

Search near the western or northwestern boundary of the Fractured Plains and the Stormtouched Highlands. Watch for darker boulders and inspect the transition rather than pushing straight through the entire higher-level area. Granite and Sandstone are different inputs, so mining Sandstone will not satisfy the Grindstone's Granite unlock.

The Grindstone recipe is unlocked but cannot be built

Check Construction level 12 and all four material requirements: 18 Stone, 12 Oak Logs, 6 Iron Bars, and 12 Granite. Unlocking the station with the first Granite does not waive its construction cost.

The built Grindstone does not function

Remove the roof above it or place the station outdoors. The Grindstone specifically requires an uncovered position. Moving it between roofed rooms will not solve the problem if every new position still has overhead coverage.

Stone is available but no Ground Stone appears

Confirm that regular Stone, not Sandstone or Granite, was selected as the input for this recipe. The station produces different ground resources from different raw materials. For Ground Stone, the required conversion is 1 Stone into 5 Ground Stone.

Cottage walls still cannot be completed

Check the complete recipe for the selected part. The documented Power Level 2 pieces require matching amounts of Ground Stone and Ground Sandstone as well as their listed timber materials. Having enough Ground Stone does not fulfill the Ground Sandstone slot.

Processing takes longer than expected

The Grindstone is documented as a slow station. Leave it filled while completing other jobs or load it before sleeping so the batch can be processed efficiently. Slow processing is normal behavior and does not by itself mean the station is placed incorrectly.

Minimal Ground Stone Checklist

Before leaving your base, bring a Bronze Pickaxe or better. Travel to the western or northwestern Fractured Plains boundary, mine Granite near the Stormtouched Highlands, and ensure it enters your inventory. Collect 12 Granite if you want to build immediately.

Back at the base, confirm Construction level 12 and gather 18 Stone, 12 Oak Logs, and 6 Iron Bars in addition to the Granite. Build the Grindstone in an uncovered location. Insert ordinary Stone at a ratio of 1 Stone for 5 Ground Stone, then process Sandstone separately if your Power Level 2 building recipe also requires Ground Sandstone.
