RuneScape Dragonwilds Wheat

Quick Answer

Start Growing Pains for Wheat Seeds, grow them in an Ash Farming Plot and grind Wheat into flour. Domri also sells Wheat for 12 Garou Chit; harvests do not guarantee replacement seeds.

Grow Wheat from Wheat Seeds in an Ash Farming Plot, then harvest the mature crop. For your first seeds, start Growing Pains with the Wise Old Man; Goblin Packs are another chance source. If you have reached Umbral Sands, Domri sells harvested Wheat for 12 Garou Chit each.

The dependable early route is growing your own crop. A planted seed is not immediately harvestable, and harvested Wheat does not guarantee a replacement seed. If your aim is flour, take the finished Wheat to a Grindstone, not the ruined windmill.

The Wheat Seeds and Wheat entries list these sources. Growing is useful before you can reach the desert merchant; purchasing is an option when you already have access and need a small amount immediately.

Fixed wild Wheat coordinates are unverified. Plan your first flour supply around the seed or merchant routes above.

Start your first crop

Growing Pains begins when you create a Wooden Watering Can or Wooden Spade at the Crafting Table and receive it in your inventory. Speak to the Wise Old Man in the Bramblemead area and leave room in your inventory for his three Wheat Seeds.

The starter quest lists 18 Ash Logs and 2 Coarse Thread for the plot and the two wooden tools together. The Ash Farming Plot itself uses 8 Ash Logs. Check the total before setting out so you can prepare both the tools and the growing space in one visit.

Wheat growing in an outdoor farming plot

Use an outdoor plot and check the crop as it advances through growth stages.

Build an Ash Farming Plot on the ground, with no roof overhead. Wheat is a Brynmoor crop; the Ash plot is the recommended match and improves resistance to disease. Other plot types can grow Wheat, but there is no reason to choose a less suitable plot for your first crop.

  1. Equip a Wooden Spade or better and till the plot until its weeds are cleared.
  2. Put the Wheat Seeds in your inventory or equip them, then use the cleared plot to plant.
  3. Fill a Watering Can from nearby water and water the planted crop until the plot's watering indicator shows it is satisfied.
  4. Recheck the crop as it advances through its growing stages. Water the next stage rather than assuming the first watering lasts until harvest.
  5. Harvest when the plant is fully grown. If you are following Growing Pains, harvest before returning to the Wise Old Man.

Placing the plot near a pond is a convenience, not a requirement. It shortens the refill trip while you learn the watering cycle.

Keep the crop alive and retain seeds

Watering reduces disease risk; it does not make the crop permanently immune. The official Farming introduction explains that crop growth progresses across in-game days and that watering, appropriate plots and compost serve different purposes.

  • Use the matching plot to improve disease resistance.
  • Water at growth stages and inspect the crop after sleeping or returning from an expedition.
  • Apply compost to improve yield and seed recovery chances.
  • Keep spare seeds when possible instead of planting every seed at once.

The Wiki lists 5 Wheat as the baseline harvest, with yield able to increase through compost and Iron Secateurs. Its base seed-return entry is only a chance of one Wheat Seed, and that chance can improve as Farming advances. A successful harvest therefore does not automatically sustain a permanent one-seed-in, one-seed-out loop.

Early in Growing Pains, you may not yet be able to create Plant Cure. A diseased first crop can force you to restart, so checking it during the tutorial is preferable to leaving it unattended on a long trip. Completing the quest unlocks Plant Cure and rewards farming supplies, including a cure.

Turn Wheat into flour or keep it whole

One Wheat makes one Bag of Flour at a Grindstone. The windmill used in older RuneScape memories is not the processing station for this recipe in Dragonwilds.

Keep a few unprocessed sheaves if you also need recipes that take Wheat directly:

UseWheat requiredStation
Bag of Flour1Grindstone
Redberry Crunchies1, plus Dried RedberriesCooking Pot
Dwellberry Crunchies1, plus Dried DwellberriesStone Range or Cooking Range
Lesser Focused Farming Potion1, plus Snapdragon and a Clay VesselBrewing Cauldron

These are separate uses: grinding the entire harvest into flour leaves none for a recipe that explicitly requires Wheat. For a quest or building goal, reserve that recipe's Wheat first and process only the remainder.
