The normal Dragonwilds Spellbook is unlocked through Zanik's tutorial or by unlocking your first skill spell. On the default PC bindings, open the Spellbook with P, drag an unlocked spell onto the Spell Wheel, then use Q to choose it. Bring the required runes before casting. These are the controls documented by Jagex; check your bindings if you have changed them.
Spellbook, Spell Wheel or a quest book?

A search for “ritual spellbook” does not establish which quest item you mean. Compare the exact item name in your journal before following a route for a different book. This page verifies the normal magic interface; it does not claim a newly verified location for every quest spellbook.
Unlock and assign your first spell
- Follow Zanik's tutorial to receive the Spellbook, or unlock your first spell through a skill such as Woodcutting.
- Open the Spellbook with P on the documented PC controls.
- Look at the spell list on the left. Hover over a spell to inspect its casting requirements, use and cooldown.
- Drag an unlocked spell into an empty slot on the Spell Wheel on the right.
- Check that you have the runes the spell requires, then use Q to open the wheel and select it.
For later unlocks, inspect the Skills tab and the relevant skill progression. A locked spell is a progression question; a spell that is unlocked but absent from the wheel needs assigning. Those are different checks.
Diagnose a casting problem in order
Before changing equipment or installing a mod, identify the step that fails. Can you open the Spellbook? Is the spell unlocked? Is it assigned? Do you have its required runes? Are you using the binding shown in your own controls? Jagex's documented P and Q controls describe PC defaults, not a complete controller-binding reference.
This checklist follows the documented interface rather than claiming a patch-specific bug fix. If the interface opens but one cast fails, read that spell's own requirements and cooldown. We have not independently reproduced every failure state in the game.
