Cursed Leather Crafting & Essence

Make 1 Cursed Leather from 2 Draconic Leather + 1 Cursed Essence at a Tannery. Use a Tannery with the nearby Tanner's Kit upgrade for recipes that take two different materials. You do not need Glass Vessels, Demonic Oil or a Mithril Pickaxe to supply this leather recipe.

The ingredient quantities follow the community Wiki's Cursed Leather entry, checked on 20 October 2026. Cursed Essence is the tanning ingredient to collect; Demonic Oil appears in some finished equipment recipes, which is a different crafting step.

Prepare the Tannery and Draconic Leather

A Tannery unlocks after collecting an Animal Bone. Its construction cost is 12 Ash Logs, 4 Animal Bones and 2 Coarse Thread. The Tannery entry states that placing a Tanner's Kit nearby allows products requiring two materials. Check that upgrade if the station cannot take both Draconic Leather and Cursed Essence.

These are alternatives. For one Cursed Leather, you need two Draconic Leather in total: for example, 2 Dragonwolf Hides, 6 Hard Leather + 2 Dragon Blood, or 8 Draconic Leather Scraps, followed by 1 Cursed Essence. You can also combine supplies from the different routes.

The Draconic Leather guide covers that earlier material in detail. Keep the finished Draconic Leather separate from raw hides and scraps when you load the Cursed Leather recipe.

Collect Cursed Essence from ash piles

These are community data values, not a guaranteed total for an entire combat run. A Small Ash Pile can yield no Cursed Essence, so collecting four of those piles does not guarantee four essence.

For a route to ash piles, MetaForge's Cursed Leather guide describes Hellrats and Hellhounds in the Garrison in Dowdun Reach. From the Wizard, use the left entrance into the fort, move through the room and climb both flights of stairs. Past the pair of knights by a fireplace, continue ahead and take the left path toward the Hellrat room.

That route includes hostile knights as well as Hellrats. The room beyond contains Hellhounds, and the guide also places more of these enemies in the underground passages toward the Demon Gate. If the first room provides the ash piles you need, you can stop there instead of pushing deeper for another fight.

Open the ash piles and check the actual essence total before returning to craft. Budget around the material you received rather than the number of enemies killed.

Convert the materials into Cursed Leather

1. Bring 2 Draconic Leather per Cursed Leather to your upgraded Tannery.
2. Add 1 Cursed Essence per Cursed Leather.
3. Select the Cursed Leather recipe and process the batch.
4. Collect the leather before taking it to the bench for your target equipment.

The recorded 40 Artisan XP for crafting Cursed Leather is experience awarded, not an Artisan level 40 requirement.

Reserve enough for the item you are crafting

Cursed Leather is used by Mithril, Black Knight, Blue Dragonhide, Mystic and other equipment recipes. You only need to make enough for your chosen pieces.

These totals cover the leather component only. For example, the Mithril Pickaxe also needs 8 Mithril Bars and 6 Maple Logs at the Blacksmith's Bench. Armour and weapons have their own additional ingredients; use the armour guide for the relevant equipment rather than spending all your materials on leather first.

If a recipe names both Cursed Leather and Demonic Oil, gather each separately. Making Cursed Leather does not produce the oil, and oil does not replace the Cursed Essence in the tanning step.
