Restless Ghosts Walkthrough

Quick Answer

Collect the Ghostspeak Amulet, visit Warren, Lazina, Finn and Kay at night, then use the Remembrance Shrine. Prepare Woodcutting and a crossing method for Finn’s cave.

To complete RuneScape Dragonwilds Restless Ghosts, collect the Ghostspeak Amulet from the Crumbling Well, speak to Warren, Lazina, Finn, and Kay at night, then remember all four spirits at the Remembrance Shrine beside the starting church. The main obstacle is Finn’s cave: you need Woodcutting level 20 and a logging axe to clear its thorny vines, plus either Windstep with 5 Air Runes per cast or enough building materials to cross the gap.

The ghosts appear only from sunset to sunrise. You do not have to find all four during the same night, so stop and prepare rather than rushing through hostile areas after sunrise. Bring food, water, repaired weapons and armour, and consider grilled mushrooms for poison resistance before entering Whispering Swamp.

Restless Ghosts Requirements and Preparation

Complete the First Steps tutorial before starting the quest. Most of the route can be followed with ordinary exploration gear, but Finn’s cave has specific access requirements that can stop your progress.

RequirementWhy you need it
First Steps tutorial completedThis is the quest prerequisite.
Woodcutting level 20Required to chop the thorny vines at Finn’s cave.
Logging axeUsed directly on the vines after reaching the cave entrance.
Windstep and Air RunesWindstep can carry you over the gap. Each cast costs 5 Air Runes.
Building materialsAn alternative way to create a route over the gap if you do not use Windstep.
Food and waterUseful during the longer trip and while dealing with enemies.
Weapons and armourGoblins, giant rats, and putrid rats can interfere with the route.
Grilled mushroomsRecommended for poison resistance while travelling through Whispering Swamp.
Free inventory roomLeave space to receive and open the reward pack at the end.

The exact unlock-level information for Windstep is inconsistent, but that does not change the quest route: if Windstep is already available, bring at least 5 Air Runes for one cast and extra runes if you may need another attempt. Otherwise, carry resources that let you build across the gap.

You can visit the spirits over multiple nights. A safer approach is to clear nearby enemies first, wait for night if necessary, and then speak to each ghost without combat interrupting the conversation.

Restless Ghosts Route Overview

Follow this sequence to move from the quest start through the four spirit locations and then to the shrine:

  1. Search the Crumbling Well in the ruined Bramblemead village and collect the Ghostspeak Amulet.
  2. At night, speak to Warren among the ruined village walls southwest of the well.
  3. Travel to the windmill in Temple Woods and find Lazina in the ruined house southeast of it.
  4. Return toward the Wise Old Man’s area, reach the raised cave to the southeast, clear the vines, and speak to Finn inside.
  5. Enter Whispering Swamp and find Kay in a ruined house along its southern boundary facing Bramblemead.
  6. Return to the starting church in Temple Woods and use the Remembrance Shrine outside its western or southwestern side.
  7. Select the remembrance option for Warren, Lazina, Finn, and Kay to complete the quest.

The order is practical because Warren introduces the other expedition members through his clues, but the critical completion condition is learning all four names before using the shrine.

How to Start Restless Ghosts

Go to the ruined village in Bramblemead near the Wise Old Man and look for the Crumbling Well among the abandoned buildings. Interact with the well to collect the Ghostspeak Amulet and begin Restless Ghosts.

The Crumbling Well among the ruined buildings in Bramblemead

The amulet is stored in the quest-item tab, not the ordinary inventory. If the well appears to give you nothing, check that tab before assuming the interaction failed. The initial objective is resolved by using the amulet’s purpose: finding and speaking to one of the restless spirits at night.

Warren is the closest spirit to the well and is the clearest first stop. If you collect the amulet during daylight, prepare your supplies or inspect the nearby ruins until sunset. Darkness caused by terrain or swamp fog does not count as night; the spirits follow the actual day-and-night cycle.

FinnBramblemeadRaised cave southeast of the Wise Old ManGap, thorny vines, and nighttime visibility.
KayWhispering SwampRuined house on the southern boundary facing BramblemeadSwamp enemies, fog, and nighttime visibility.

Speak to every ghost until you have learned the spirit’s name and received the request to lay them to rest. Merely seeing a spirit or entering the correct building is not enough. If a name is unavailable at the final shrine, return to that ghost at night and finish the conversation.

Warren in the Ruined Village

From the Crumbling Well, walk southwest through the same ruined settlement. Warren appears among the broken stone walls in the southwestern part of the village. He is only a short distance from the well, so avoid leaving the settlement while searching.

Speak to Warren and continue until you learn his name. His clues describe the other expedition members: stopped blades point toward the windmill and Lazina, a brother buried in darkness points toward Finn’s cave, and a spirit lost among swamp gas and ruined timber points toward Kay.

Warren is the easiest spirit to use when confirming that night has begun. If he is missing, first verify that you have collected the Ghostspeak Amulet and that the current time is between sunset and sunrise. When both conditions are met, search the ruined walls southwest of the well rather than the wider Bramblemead Valley.

Lazina at the Temple Woods Windmill

Travel to the windmill in Temple Woods, the same general area visited during the early giant-rat objective. Search the small ruined house southeast of the windmill. Lazina appears inside or among the broken remains at night.

The windmill is the essential landmark. Warren’s clue refers to blades that once turned, so searching unrelated ruins in Bramblemead will not lead to Lazina. Once you find the ruined house beside the windmill, speak to her until her name is recorded.

Nearby giant rats may interrupt the search or conversation. Deal with enemies before approaching the spirit, especially if your equipment is still basic. If you reach the correct house during daylight, note the landmark and return after sunset rather than searching farther away.

Finn in the Bramblemead Cave

Finn has the most demanding location in the quest. Return toward the Wise Old Man’s area, then travel southeast toward the cliffs. Look along the cliff face for a small cave entrance raised above the surrounding ground. A lit torch near the cave can help identify it at night.

A gap separates you from the entrance, and thorny vines block the cave itself. Complete the approach in this order:

  1. Face the raised cave entrance from the near side of the gap.
  2. Use Windstep and jump toward the ledge, spending 5 Air Runes for the cast. If you are not using Windstep, build a route over the gap with the materials you brought.
  3. Approach the thorny vines after reaching the ledge.
  4. Use your logging axe on the vines. This action requires Woodcutting level 20.
  5. Enter the cave and speak to Finn at night.
  6. Continue the conversation until you learn Finn’s name and his request is recorded.

Do not confuse the two obstacles. Windstep or building solves the gap, while Woodcutting level 20 and an axe solve the vines. Reaching the ledge without the Woodcutting requirement still leaves the cave blocked. Likewise, being able to cut vines does not provide a way across the gap.

If a Windstep attempt fails, another cast consumes another 5 Air Runes. Bringing more than the single-cast minimum prevents a failed jump from forcing a separate supply trip. Building remains the supported alternative if you cannot or do not want to use the spell.

Finn appears only at night even after the entrance is open. If the cave is accessible but empty, check the time rather than repeating the traversal. There is also a treasure chest in the cave, but its contents are not required for Restless Ghosts and should not be treated as a fixed quest reward.

Kay in Whispering Swamp

Kay is inside a ruined house along the southern edge of Whispering Swamp, facing the Bramblemead border. One approach begins from northeastern Bramblemead: enter the swamp through the passage beneath the goblin hideout, keep to the right, and follow the outer boundary instead of wandering through the middle.

Look for broken timber and the ruined building near the boundary. A glowing torch can help distinguish the site from the surrounding fog. Kay appears there at night.

The swamp route can involve goblins, giant rats, and putrid rats. Keep food ready, clear nearby enemies before starting the conversation, and use grilled mushrooms if you brought them for poison resistance. Fighting first reduces the risk of leaving the dialogue before Kay’s name has been recorded.

Whispering Swamp can look dark during the day because of its fog. If you have found the correct building but cannot see Kay, confirm that sunset has actually occurred. Do not use the swamp’s lighting alone as proof that the nighttime appearance condition is active.

Speak to Kay until you learn the name and receive the request to be remembered. After that, check that Warren, Lazina, Finn, and Kay have all been recorded before leaving for the shrine.

How to Use the Remembrance Shrine

Return to the church where the game begins in Temple Woods. The Remembrance Shrine is outside on the church’s western or southwestern side, in the graveyard area. Look for a stone shrine topped by a flower-filled vase rather than entering the church or searching for another ghost.

Interact with the shrine and choose the remembrance option for each expedition member:

  • Warren
  • Lazina
  • Finn
  • Kay

All four names must be remembered at the shrine. Finding the ghosts does not complete the quest by itself. If one of the names is absent from the interaction choices, return to that spirit’s location at night and complete the conversation.

Leave free inventory room before making the final selections. Completing the quest awards a Restless Ghosts Reward Pack, which must then be opened to collect its contents. Keeping space available avoids an unnecessary inventory-management interruption at the final step.

Restless Ghosts Troubleshooting

A ghost is missing from the correct location

Check the time first. Warren, Lazina, Finn, and Kay appear only between sunset and sunrise, and they can be visited over multiple nights. In Whispering Swamp, fog can make daytime look dark, so verify the actual day-and-night cycle. Also confirm that you collected the Ghostspeak Amulet from the well and check for it in the quest-item tab.

Finn’s cave is still inaccessible

Identify which obstacle is stopping you. For the gap, use Windstep with 5 Air Runes per cast or build a crossing. For the thorny vines, reach Woodcutting level 20 and use a logging axe directly on them. Having only one part of this preparation is insufficient.

A spirit’s name is missing at the shrine

Return to that spirit at night and continue the conversation until the name and request are recorded. Entering the location, seeing the ghost, or beginning the dialogue does not necessarily finish that spirit’s step.

Kay is difficult to find in the swamp

Follow the outer edge rather than crossing the swamp’s centre. Search the ruined house on the southern boundary facing Bramblemead and use its broken timber and nearby torch as landmarks. Prepare for putrid rats and other enemies before stopping to talk.

The final interaction does not finish the quest

Confirm that you selected the remembrance option for all four names, not just the first available choice. Make room in your inventory for the reward pack, then interact with the shrine again after resolving any missing spirit conversation.

Restless Ghosts Rewards

Completing the shrine sequence awards the Restless Ghosts Reward Pack. Its listed contents are:

  • 1 Tome of Cooking – Vol. 1
  • 1 Tome of Mining – Vol. 1
  • 1 Tome of Woodcutting – Vol. 1
  • 1 Tome of the Artisan – Vol. 1

The quest also establishes your ability to communicate with ghosts through the Ghostspeak Amulet. Keep the amulet after completion: it remains relevant to later spirit-related quests, while starting Restless Ghosts is specifically required before beginning Even More Restless Ghosts.
