What's Theirs Is Mine

Quick Answer

Speak to Doric in Dowdun Reach. Complete the Cathedral, Garrison and Demon Gate objectives in any order, then return to Doric to unlock the Zamorak Staff recipe.

To complete What's Theirs Is Mine, speak to Doric in The Nexus, investigate the Cathedral and Garrison in Dowdun Keep, search the dead mage beyond the two shardbound lesser demons at The Demon Gate, and return to Doric. The main reward is the recipe for the Zamorak staff, not a finished staff. Activating all nine nodestones in Dowdun Reach is a separate bonus objective that awards a portal reward pack.

You can visit the three investigation locations in any order. The route below follows Doric's clues—Cathedral, Garrison, then Demon Gate—because it gives you a clear checkpoint after each discovery and leaves the most dangerous section until last.

Although the quest does not consume a required item, it takes place almost entirely in hostile territory. Repair or replace weak equipment before entering Dowdun Keep, fill your food slots, and leave spare inventory space for the quest discoveries. The Cathedral and Garrison involve regular hostile occupants, while The Demon Gate ends with the quest's unavoidable fight.

Do not treat access to Dowdun Reach as proof that the quest is available. If Doric does not offer the quest, check your progress in Black Knight's Fortress first. The listed prerequisite is partial completion rather than full completion, but some progress in that quest is still required.

Fast route through the quest

  1. Find Doric in The Nexus and accept his request to recover a bronze dog keepsake.
  2. Go to the Cathedral in Dowdun Keep, reach its north-west upper ledge from the exterior with Windstep, and inspect the scrawled notes near the nodestone.
  3. Activate the Cathedral nodestone and report back to Doric.
  4. Enter the Garrison and find the mage's schematics on a crate near the nodestone in the four-turret building on the fortress's northern side.
  5. Activate the Garrison nodestone and return to Doric again.
  6. Descend to The Demon Gate beneath Dowdun Keep and activate the underground nodestone when you reach it.
  7. Continue to the arena at the far end and defeat the two shardbound lesser demons.
  8. Search the dead Zamorak mage beyond the arena and take the crumpled schematic.
  9. Return to Doric in The Nexus to complete the quest and learn the Zamorak staff recipe.
  10. If you want the additional reward, activate every one of the nine nodestones in Dowdun Reach and speak to Doric again.

The investigation sites themselves may be visited in another order, but Doric's dialogue provides a useful confirmation that each clue has registered. Activating each nearby nodestone also turns later returns into short trips instead of repeated runs through the keep.

Start What's Theirs Is Mine at The Nexus

Doric is in The Nexus, the portal hub within Dowdun Reach. Speak with him after meeting the Black Knight's Fortress prerequisite. He explains that a red-robed mage collided with him and apparently stole a small bronze dog on a keychain. The keepsake matters to him because it was made by his son, Boric.

Doric saw the mage escape through a portal and briefly noticed pews and religious fixtures on the other side. That description points to the Cathedral. Accept the quest, make sure your combat supplies are ready, and head into Dowdun Keep.

The quest is built around three evidence pickups and repeated returns to Doric. A nearby nodestone accompanies each objective, so activate it while you are at the location even if you normally prefer travelling on foot. Those activations make the intended return loop much faster and also contribute toward the optional nine-nodestone objective.

Cathedral: reach the upper ledge and take the notes

The Cathedral clue is on the north-west wing of the building, but it cannot be reached by simply searching the interior rooms. This access detail is the most likely reason for getting stuck at the first objective.

  1. Enter the Cathedral area and turn right.
  2. Follow the exterior walkway around the side of the building.
  3. Look for the section where part of the parapet is missing.
  4. Use Windstep from that opening to reach the upper ledge.
  5. Follow the ledge to the table holding the scrawled notes.
  6. Inspect or collect the notes, then activate the nodestone beside them.

The notes discuss portal magic and the unusual way the keep's nodestones draw power from the Dreaming Stone without runes. You do not find the mage here, but the lingering energy at the nodestone confirms that you are following the correct trail.

Once the objective updates, use the newly activated nodestone to return to The Nexus and speak with Doric. He reports that the red-robed mage passed him again carrying a large, spiky staff. His next description—chains, cells, and angry-looking knights—directs you to the Garrison.

If the objective marker appears to point inside the Cathedral but you cannot reach it, stop searching the ground-floor rooms. The evidence is above you, and the intended approach starts outside at the broken section of parapet. Reaching the upper ledge with Windstep is the key step.

Garrison: find the schematics beside the nodestone

The second clue is in the Garrison area of Dowdun Keep. Look for the building with four turrets on the northern face of the fortress. Hostile Black Knights occupy the surrounding paths and structures, so clear enemies that prevent you from safely examining the objective.

Enter the four-turret building and search its first floor. The mage's schematics are sitting on top of a crate close to the nodestone. The evidence describes an experiment involving emotion-based magic: energy is being drawn from suffering and channelled toward a source of pain.

Pick up the schematics and activate the nearby nodestone before leaving. If you reach a tower but cannot find the quest item, verify both identifying features: you need the four-turret building on the fortress's northern side, and the notes are on a crate near its nodestone. Searching unrelated towers can make this short objective feel much larger than it is.

Return to Doric after the objective registers. The mage has escaped through a portal once more. Doric's final glimpse contains glowing lights, water, and rock, suggesting a demonic gateway. Your remaining destination is The Demon Gate beneath Dowdun Keep.

Demon Gate: defeat the demons and search the mage

The Demon Gate is the underground section of the quest and the point where preparation matters most. You can avoid or run past some enemies while travelling through the tunnels, but the two shardbound lesser demons at the arena are mandatory. Bring enough food for the approach and the final encounter rather than assuming every enemy can be bypassed.

Descend through the underground route beneath Dowdun Keep. The path eventually reaches an elevator leading farther down. When you arrive in the lower area, activate the nearby nodestone before continuing. If you are defeated later, this checkpoint prevents another full journey through the upper keep and tunnels.

From the underground nodestone, continue along the available route toward the far end of The Demon Gate. The destination is an arena guarded by two shardbound lesser demons. These are the quest's required enemies. If engaging both at once overwhelms you, draw the attention of one and fight it separately before committing to the second. The goal is to create a controlled fight rather than allowing both demons to pressure you simultaneously.

After both demons are defeated, cross to the far side of the arena. The red-robed Zamorak mage is already dead, with singed robes and claw wounds. Search the body. Doric's bronze dog is not there, but you will recover a crumpled schematic. This schematic—not the keepsake—is the item that advances the final step.

Make sure the search interaction completes before leaving. Finding the body without taking the schematic will not give Doric what he needs. Once it is collected, use the underground nodestone to return to The Nexus and speak with Doric.

Finish the quest with Doric

Doric finally admits that the mage never stole the bronze dog. When the two collided, the keepsake fell from Doric's pocket and rolled behind a rock. The trip through Dowdun Keep was therefore a wild goose chase, but the schematic recovered from the dead mage still has value.

Give Doric the schematic. He identifies it as the design for a sinister staff and teaches you the recipe for the Zamorak staff as an apology. This completes the main quest.

The distinction between a recipe and a finished weapon matters. The quest unlocks the ability to craft the staff; it does not place a completed Zamorak staff in your inventory. If the quest log shows completion but you cannot find the weapon among your items, nothing has necessarily failed—check that the recipe was unlocked instead.

Activate all nine nodestones for the bonus reward

The three investigation nodestones are connected to the main walkthrough, but they are not the entire optional objective. Doric asks you to bring all nine nodestones throughout Dowdun Reach online. Completing the three quest locations does not automatically satisfy that larger total.

You can finish What's Theirs Is Mine and receive the Zamorak staff recipe without activating every nodestone. The nine-nodestone task is an additional reward track. After all nine are active, return to Doric and ask him about the nodestones. He awards a portal reward pack containing four tier 2 experience tomes:

  • Tome of the Artisan - Vol 2.
  • Tome of Construction - Vol 2.
  • Tome of Magic - Vol 2.
  • Tome of Mining - Vol 2.

If Doric says more nodestones remain, use the portal network to identify destinations that are still unavailable rather than repeatedly revisiting the three quest sites. The Cathedral, Garrison, and Demon Gate activations contribute to the total, but six other Dowdun Reach nodestones are also required.
