Draconic Leather Crafting

Quick Answer

Make Draconic Leather at a Tannery using Dragonwolf Hide, Hard Leather with Dragon Blood, or Draconic Leather Scraps. Choose the route that fits your available materials.

Draconic Leather is a processed material made at a Tannery. In the current 1.0 crafting data, you can produce one piece from 1 Dragonwolf Hide, 3 Hard Leather plus 1 Dragon Blood, or 4 Draconic Leather Scraps. The Dragonwolf Hide route is the most material-efficient conversion, while the Hard Leather route lets you turn an existing leather stockpile into the material once you have Dragon Blood. Scraps give otherwise incomplete drops a clear use.

You will need Draconic Leather for the Blast Furnace, steel equipment, several armour sets, the Shadow Sword, an Ascension Core, and later processed materials. It is not sold in shops, so plan around crafting or loot. If you are trying to start steel production, keep at least 4 Draconic Leather for the Blast Furnace before spending the rest on equipment.

How to Make Draconic Leather at a Tannery

All three processing recipes produce exactly one Draconic Leather. Choose the route according to what you already have rather than waiting for one specific ingredient to drop.

The Dragonwolf Hide route

Take 1 Dragonwolf Hide to a Tannery and process it into 1 Draconic Leather. Dragonwolves in Fellhollow provide the hide associated with this recipe. Because the conversion is one hide for one finished leather, it is the simplest route to count when preparing a specific craft.

This path also avoids consuming Hard Leather. That matters if your base still needs Hard Leather for other recipes or if you do not have enough Dragon Blood to support repeated conversions. Keep the hide intact until you return to a Tannery; it has no advantage over the finished material for any use listed on this page.

The Hard Leather and Dragon Blood route

Combine 3 Hard Leather with 1 Dragon Blood at a Tannery to receive 1 Draconic Leather. Dragon Blood can drop from Dragonwolves and dragons encountered after progressing into Fellhollow. This route is useful when Dragon Blood is available but complete Dragonwolf Hides are not keeping pace with your crafting target.

Hard Leather has its own acquisition and processing chain, so calculate that cost before committing a large stack. Every ten Draconic Leather made this way consumes 30 Hard Leather and 10 Dragon Blood. If Hard Leather is the limiting ingredient, process complete Dragonwolf Hides and scraps first, then use this recipe only for the remaining deficit.

The Draconic Leather Scraps route

Process 4 Draconic Leather Scraps at a Tannery to make 1 Draconic Leather. Scraps are a basic material with a stack limit of 99. Listed sources include Zamorakian Warrior Packs, Leather Salvage, and chests in Umbral Sands.

The listed drop quantities are useful for planning inventory space:

  • A Zamorakian Warrior Pack can provide 1–2 scraps.
  • Leather Salvage can provide 3–4 scraps.
  • An Umbral Sands chest can provide 4–8 scraps.

Do not leave a nearly complete scrap stack unused while farming another full hide. Four scraps already equal one finished leather, so converting scraps before counting your remaining target prevents unnecessary extra runs.

A Practical Crafting Workflow

Use the following sequence when a new steel, armour, building, or weapon recipe asks for Draconic Leather:

  1. Check the exact finished-item cost. Draconic Leather requirements range from one piece for several head items to ten pieces for an Ascension Core. Avoid estimating from the size of the item.
  2. Count finished leather first. Include Draconic Leather already stored at your base or carried in your inventory.
  3. Convert complete Dragonwolf Hides. Each hide closes the deficit by one without spending Hard Leather or Dragon Blood.
  4. Convert complete sets of scraps. Divide the scrap count into groups of four. Keep any remainder for the next trip.
  5. Use Hard Leather and Dragon Blood for the remaining deficit. Multiply the number still required by three to find the Hard Leather cost. The Dragon Blood cost equals the number of finished leather still required.
  6. Collect the processed output. Material-driven recipe discovery means newly processed materials may reveal related recipes after you make and pick them up.
  7. Reserve progression materials before optional equipment. If the Blast Furnace is still unbuilt, set aside its four pieces before using Draconic Leather on weapons or armour.

This order uses every available source while protecting materials that belong to separate crafting chains. It also provides an exact stopping point: once your converted hides, complete scrap groups, and planned Hard Leather conversions equal the recipe requirement, the material portion of the job is complete.

Draconic Leather Batch Calculator

The table below shows the raw requirements when using only one conversion route. You can mix routes freely because every operation produces one finished piece.

Finished Draconic LeatherDragonwolf Hide routeHard Leather and Dragon Blood routeScraps route
11 Dragonwolf Hide3 Hard Leather + 1 Dragon Blood4 scraps
22 Dragonwolf Hide6 Hard Leather + 2 Dragon Blood8 scraps
44 Dragonwolf Hide12 Hard Leather + 4 Dragon Blood16 scraps
66 Dragonwolf Hide18 Hard Leather + 6 Dragon Blood24 scraps
1010 Dragonwolf Hide30 Hard Leather + 10 Dragon Blood40 scraps
2020 Dragonwolf Hide60 Hard Leather + 20 Dragon Blood80 scraps

For a mixed example, suppose you need six finished pieces and already have two Dragonwolf Hides plus nine scraps. The hides produce two leather, and eight of the scraps produce another two. You are then short by two pieces, which can be covered with 6 Hard Leather and 2 Dragon Blood. One scrap remains for a later batch.

A full stack of 50 Draconic Leather weighs 30 because each piece weighs 0.6. You rarely need to carry that much for a single craft, so keep the finished material near the stations that consume it and take only the required quantity to another base.

Important Crafts That Use Draconic Leather

Draconic Leather is not tied to one combat style. It appears in infrastructure, tools, melee weapons, ranged armour, magic armour, metal armour, and further material processing. The tables below list the Draconic Leather portion of each recipe; they do not replace the other ingredients required by those crafts.

Progression structures and processed materials

Scorch LeatherAdvanced Tannery12 Kalphite Shell, 1 Acrid Adhesive

The Blast Furnace is the key early reservation in this group. It allows the steel-production step described in the supplied 1.0 material guide, and many steel recipes then ask for more Draconic Leather. Spending every piece on a weapon before building the furnace can therefore leave the wider steel crafting chain blocked.

Choose the finished item before farming the leather. A Steel Greataxe requires twice as much Draconic Leather as a Steel Warhammer, while the Wolfbane Dagger requires only one. The material cost alone does not indicate which weapon is appropriate for a build, but it does determine how many complete conversions you must prepare.

For a complete three-piece set, add the listed leather costs before leaving the Tannery. The Steel set shown here totals 14 Draconic Leather, as does the White set. Fallen Hoplite armour totals 16, Green Dragonhide totals 10, Ranger totals 7, Necromancer totals 7, and Splitbark totals 7. These totals cover only the three armour pieces named in the table; shields and other equipment remain separate crafts.

Loot Sources and When to Use Them

Finished Draconic Leather can also appear through listed loot sources. A Zamorakian Warrior Pack can provide one finished piece, Leather Salvage can provide one or two, and an Umbral Sands chest can provide two or three. The same source categories may provide scraps instead, which should be converted in groups of four.

Treat direct loot as a reduction to your crafting target, not as a guaranteed replacement for processing. Check the finished leather and scrap totals after opening packs, salvage, or chests. Then convert what you have and calculate only the remaining deficit. This prevents you from collecting three Hard Leather for a piece that a completed scrap group already covers.

Because Draconic Leather is not sold by shops, there is no vendor shortcut when a recipe is short by one piece. Your immediate options are another hide, four scraps, the Hard Leather and Dragon Blood conversion, or eligible loot.

Common Draconic Leather Blockers

The Tannery has materials but no finished output

Confirm that the ingredients match one complete recipe. Two Hard Leather and one Dragon Blood are not enough; that route requires exactly three Hard Leather for each finished piece. Similarly, one to three scraps cannot be processed until the stack reaches four.

Recipe discovery can depend on collecting and processing the relevant materials. Make the refined material, collect it from the station, and then inspect the appropriate crafting station again. A Tannery creates Draconic Leather, but the finished equipment may belong at the Blacksmith's Bench, Armour Bench, Mystic Forge, Advanced Tannery, or Build Menu.

Draconic Leather is being confused with ordinary Leather

Leather, Hard Leather, Draconic Leather, Green Dragonhide Leather, Cursed Leather, and Scorch Leather are separate materials. A recipe that specifies Draconic Leather will not be satisfied by an ordinary Leather stack. Check the full material name before starting another gathering trip.

The available materials do not cover the planned set

Add the costs of every piece rather than checking them one at a time. For example, crafting a Steel Platebody, Steel Platelegs, and Steel Full Helm consumes 6 + 4 + 4, or 14 Draconic Leather. If the Blast Furnace also remains unbuilt, the combined target becomes 18. Using only the Hard Leather route for that combined target would require 54 Hard Leather and 18 Dragon Blood.

Inventory totals are hiding usable scraps

Keep finished leather, hides, blood, Hard Leather, and scraps as separate counts. Convert every complete group of four scraps before calculating the final shortage. A stack of eleven scraps represents two finished Draconic Leather with three scraps left over; treating it as unusable would overstate the remaining farm.

Final Material Check

Before leaving the Tannery, verify the following:

  • The finished Draconic Leather count covers the exact selected recipe or complete set.
  • Four pieces remain reserved if you still need to build the Blast Furnace.
  • Every complete group of four scraps has been converted.
  • Hard Leather was multiplied by three for each conversion planned through Dragon Blood.
  • The required crafting station for the final product is available.
  • You collected the processed output so material-driven recipes can appear.
  • Extra leather is stored instead of carried unnecessarily; each piece weighs 0.6 and a stack holds 50.

Once those checks pass, the Draconic Leather portion of the craft is complete. Any remaining blocker belongs to the other ingredients or to the final product's station, not to the leather conversion itself.
