Craft Fine Cloth at a Loom with a Loom Harness next to it, using three Fine Thread and one Gold Bar for each cloth. The Loom needs a roof above it to operate. Each Fine Cloth recipe produces one cloth and awards 40 Artisan experience. That number is the crafting experience award; it is not a stated Artisan level requirement.
Fine Cloth is a processed textile used mainly in power level five armour, with additional crafting and building uses. If the recipe is missing from a working Loom, check the Loom Harness before gathering more cotton. If the recipe is visible but short on ingredients, count processed Fine Thread and Gold Bars rather than raw Corpse Cotton and Gold Ore.
Recognize the finished cloth
Fine Cloth is woven from Fine Thread and gold. It weighs 1.5 per item and stacks to 50. The cloth is a separate material from its thread input: an armour recipe asking for Fine Cloth will not accept a pile of Fine Thread that has yet to pass through the Loom.

The distinction matters when you already own several textiles. Rough Cloth, Wool Cloth, Padded Cloth, Mystic Cloth, and Fine Cloth all use the Loom, but each has its own recipe. The presence of a textile in storage does not make it interchangeable with Fine Cloth. Read the exact name on the armour or weapon recipe and make that output, rather than assuming a higher-sounding cloth can fill the slot.
Gold is also part of the conversion. Older mental models that treat Fine Cloth as “three thread only” leave the material budget incomplete. The full recipe consumes three Fine Thread and one Gold Bar. Keep both in your production plan, even if cotton collection has been the more difficult part of the project so far.
Prepare the Loom and its Harness
The Loom unlocks when you obtain a Bronze Bar. Build it from the Build Menu using 22 Ash Planks, four Bronze Bars, and six Wool Thread. Building it awards 12 Construction experience. That is the cost of the base station; it is separate from the Fine Cloth ingredients you will process afterward.
| Requirement | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Obtain a Bronze Bar | Unlock the Loom |
| 22 Ash Planks | Base Loom building material |
| 4 Bronze Bars | Base Loom building material |
| 6 Wool Thread | Base Loom building material |
| Roof above the Loom | Allow the station to operate |
| Loom Harness beside the Loom | Enable Fine Cloth production |
The ordinary Loom processes Rough Cloth, Wool Cloth, and Mystic Cloth. The Loom Harness expands the available textiles to include Fine Cloth, along with other upgraded recipes. Therefore, a functioning Loom is only part of the Fine Cloth setup. You need the associated Harness as well as a usable, sheltered station.

Unlock the Loom Harness by gathering Iron Ore, smelting it into Iron Bars, and interacting with the Loom. Receiving the recipe notification after collecting Iron Bars does not complete the interaction step: if the Harness is missing from the Build Menu, return to the Loom and interact with it. Build the Harness using 18 Ash Planks, 12 Oak Logs, four Iron Bars, twelve Wool Thread, and four Ram Horns. Its building recipe awards 15 Construction experience.
Place the Harness within nine metres of the Loom. Each Harness supports one Loom, and only the closest Loom receives the extra slot when it sits between two. If you have a workshop with multiple Looms, check which one is receiving the upgrade. A distant Loom or the wrong nearest station can explain why Fine Cloth is unavailable despite having built the Harness.
Process the ingredients in the right order
Fine Cloth has a short chain with two transformations. First, use the Spinning Wheel to turn Corpse Cotton into Fine Thread. Then use the upgraded Loom to combine Fine Thread with Gold Bars. Neither raw cotton nor Gold Ore is listed as a direct Fine Cloth ingredient.
- Choose the armour piece or other final item you want to craft.
- Count the Fine Cloth required by that item.
- Reserve three Fine Thread and one Gold Bar for each cloth.
- Produce any missing Fine Thread at the Spinning Wheel, using four Corpse Cotton per thread.
- Check that the Loom is sheltered and has the Loom Harness beside it.
- Select Fine Cloth, supply the listed processed materials, and collect the completed output.
- Take the cloth to the station that makes your final armour, weapon, or other target.
The Fine Thread guide covers the wheel and direct thread uses. Keep some thread aside if you are also making bows or tools. Turning all thread into cloth can complete your armour stock while leaving a separate weapon project without its bowstrings.
Calculate a complete cloth batch
The conversion from raw cotton is twelve Corpse Cotton plus one Gold Bar for each Fine Cloth, because twelve cotton produce the three thread required by the Loom. This calculation assumes you are producing all thread from scratch. If you already have finished thread, subtract that stock before deciding how much cotton to collect.
| Fine Cloth target | Fine Thread needed | Corpse Cotton if starting from zero | Gold Bars needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 3 | 12 | 1 |
| 2 | 6 | 24 | 2 |
| 3 | 9 | 36 | 3 |
| 4 | 12 | 48 | 4 |
| 6 | 18 | 72 | 6 |
| 8 | 24 | 96 | 8 |
| 10 | 30 | 120 | 10 |
| 12 | 36 | 144 | 12 |
These numbers are ingredient totals, not promised yield per trip. They do not specify how quickly a cotton source returns or how many gold nodes you will find. The practical benefit is knowing which part of the chain is incomplete before you leave the workshop. A finished batch of thread does not fix a gold shortage, and spare gold does not remove the spinning step.
For example, a four-cloth project requires twelve thread. If you already have six thread, produce the other six from 24 cotton, then combine all twelve with four Gold Bars. If you only count the cotton in your inventory, you can miss usable processed stock and collect more raw material than the project needs.
Budget cloth for an armour set
Several armour families consume Fine Cloth at the Armour Bench. The table isolates the cloth component so you can compare textile costs. It does not replace the complete armour recipes: bones, bark, leather, metal bars, Sacred Oil, and Vault Shards remain required where listed.
| Armour family | Head piece | Body piece | Leg piece | Cloth total for those three pieces |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Necromancer | Crown: 2 | Robe Top: 8 | Robe Bottom: 4 | 14 |
| Ranger | Hat: 4 | Tunic: 12 | Tights: 6 | 22 |
| Splitbark | Helm: 2 | Body: 8 | Legs: 4 | 14 |
| Steel | Full Helm or Med Helm: 1 | Platebody: 4 | Platelegs: 3 | 8 |
| White | Full Helm: 1 | Platebody: 2 | Platelegs: 3 | 6 |
A Steel set using one helmet, the Platebody, and Platelegs needs eight Fine Cloth. Its textile chain therefore consumes 24 Fine Thread and eight Gold Bars, or 96 Corpse Cotton for the thread if starting without any. Making both Steel helmet variants would add another cloth, so choose the helmet you actually intend to use before counting the set.
The three listed Ranger pieces require 22 Fine Cloth. That is a much larger textile allocation than the steel example: 66 thread and 22 Gold Bars, with 264 cotton needed for those thread from scratch. This comparison helps you plan the material supply; it does not establish which set is best for your combat style.

For Splitbark or Necromancer gear, fourteen Fine Cloth cover the three pieces listed. That means 42 thread and fourteen Gold Bars for the cloth component. Keep the remaining armour ingredients on a separate checklist. Producing the full textile amount is progress, but you still need the materials specific to each piece at the Armour Bench.
Reserve cloth for non-armour uses
Fine Cloth also appears in selected weapons and other recipes. A Steel Scimitar uses two cloth at the Blacksmith's Bench, alongside ten Steel Bars, five Draconic Leather, and six Vault Shards. A Zombie Axe also uses two cloth, with Steel Bars, Willow Logs, Necrotic Bonemeal, and Vault Shards completing its other inputs.
The Ascension Core recipe listed at the Mystic Forge consumes ten Fine Cloth, together with 99 power level five Ascension Shards, ten Steel Bars, and ten Draconic Leather. If you are planning both armour and that core, include the ten cloth in your total before assigning the entire batch to armour pieces. The dedicated Ascension Core guide covers the broader progression task.
For a smaller construction allocation, the listed Muncher's Basket recipe uses two Fine Cloth alongside two Undead Bone, two Willow Logs, and two Ectoplasm. Decide whether that item belongs in the current batch rather than automatically adding every possible cloth use to your gathering target. A clear final objective gives you a smaller, checkable materials list.
Treat alternative drops as supplementary stock
Textile Salvage lists one Fine Cloth at a recorded rarity of 16.67 out of 100. A Zamorakian Mage Pack also lists one cloth, with a recorded rarity of five out of 100. These are possible additional sources of finished cloth. They are not guaranteed replacements for the Loom chain and do not support a reliable cloth-per-hour estimate.
Count any cloth gained this way before processing more thread and gold. If an eight-cloth project already has two cloth in storage, only six remain to craft. That leaves an eighteen-thread and six-Gold-Bar Loom budget. The source of the first two cloth does not change how many the final recipe will consume.
Fix the common production failures
Fine Cloth is missing from the station
Confirm that you are at the Loom and that its Harness is beside it. The base station has other valid recipes, so its ability to weave Rough Cloth does not prove the Fine Cloth setup is complete. Check the upgraded recipe before assuming that the problem is a missing character level.
The Loom is present but inactive
Check the roof above it and the Harness placement. The Harness must be within nine metres and supports only the closest Loom. The operating requirement is shelter, independently of the ingredient list. After correcting the station setup, reopen its production interface and select Fine Cloth. Buying or collecting more cotton cannot repair an unsheltered Loom.
An armour recipe still shows missing cloth
Collect the finished Loom output and count Fine Cloth itself. Fine Thread, Corpse Cotton, and another textile do not satisfy the same slot. Then check the remaining armour materials separately so you do not mistake a leather or Sacred Oil shortage for a cloth shortage.
