Blightwood Locations

Quick Answer

Take an iron logging axe or better and poison protection to Bloodblight Swamp. Chop the pale roots exposed around large trees rather than striking the trunks.

RuneScape Dragonwilds Blightwood comes from the exposed pale roots around large trees in Bloodblight Swamp. Bring an iron logging axe or better, prepare poison protection before entering, and chop the roots rather than the tree trunks. An intact Blightwood Root takes one swing with an iron logging axe and always yields 2 Blightwood.

The roots return after three in-game days, provided nothing has been placed directly on their spawn points. Not every large tree has an exposed root, so the fastest approach is to recognize the correct node, move from tree to tree, and collect only the pale roots protruding near ground level.

Prepare before entering Bloodblight Swamp

The two important preparations are a suitable logging axe and protection from poison. Bloodblight Swamp applies poison as you move through the hazardous parts of the region, while hostile creatures can make a poorly prepared gathering trip harder than it needs to be.

Bring an iron logging axe

Use an iron logging axe or better when farming Blightwood. The gathering node is a root, but it is still harvested with a logging axe. Do not confuse that requirement with the Iron Pickaxe recipe that uses Blightwood later. The pickaxe is one possible reason to collect the material; it is not the tool used to harvest it.

An iron logging axe clears a Blightwood Root in one swing. This makes the actual harvesting quick once you have found the correct node. Most of the trip is spent managing poison, recognizing exposed roots, and moving safely between the large trees.

Prepare a weak anti-poison potion

A weak anti-poison potion provides 300 seconds of poison protection. Brew several if you plan to explore instead of making a short collection run. The demonstrated preparation uses a Bittercap Mushroom, Harralander, Charcoal, and a fired Clay Vessel at a Brewing Cauldron.

The vessel requires an extra preparation step:

  1. Gather clay and make an unfired Clay Vessel at a Pottery Wheel.
  2. Put the unfired vessel through a Kiln to create the usable vessel.
  3. Prepare Charcoal in the Kiln if you do not already have it.
  4. Combine the fired vessel, Bittercap Mushroom, Harralander, and Charcoal at the Brewing Cauldron.
  5. Put the finished potion on your hotbar and drink it immediately before entering the poisonous area.

Bittercap Mushrooms, Harralander, and clay can be gathered in Whispering Swamp. Bringing more than one potion gives you time to search several tree clusters without being forced to retreat as soon as the first effect expires. Keeping an additional potion at home also prevents a death in the swamp from leaving every dose on the body you need to recover.

Where Blightwood grows

Blightwood grows in Bloodblight Swamp, around the bases of its large, unusual trees. Look for a pale or yellow-white root protruding from the ground. The root is a separate gathering node; swinging at an ordinary trunk or an unmarked part of the tree will not produce the material you want.

The pale root is marked at the base of the tree in the poisonous swamp.

Not every Blightwood tree has an exposed root. Continue checking the bases of nearby trees when the first one has nothing to harvest. A few roots may also appear without being visibly connected to a tree, so scan the ground as well as the trunks. Once you learn the root's color and shape, it is more reliable to follow recognizable tree clusters than to search for one supposedly unique tree.

The swamp contains enemies, and one gathering account also places a boss near the entrance route. You do not need to push directly into every hostile encounter just to obtain Blightwood. Activate poison protection, search the accessible trees, take the exposed roots, and move on instead of fighting everything in the region.

Harvesting Blightwood step by step

  1. Equip an iron logging axe or a better logging axe before travelling to Bloodblight Swamp.
  2. Carry enough anti-poison protection for the time you intend to spend inside the region.
  3. Drink the potion just before entering the poisonous part of the swamp.
  4. Search around the bases of large Blightwood trees for exposed pale roots.
  5. Aim at the root node rather than the main tree trunk.
  6. Strike the root once with the iron logging axe.
  7. Collect the 2 Blightwood dropped by the cleared root.
  8. Continue around the nearby trees, checking each base instead of assuming every tree has a node.
  9. Leave the area before your poison protection becomes a problem, or consume another prepared dose.
  10. Return after three in-game days to repeat the route once the roots have respawned.

Axtral Projection is another supported way to harvest Blightwood Roots. If you already have access to that option, it can replace the manual axe strike. The roots still provide the same Blightwood resource, and their three-day respawn remains the limiting factor on repeated collection from the same nodes.

Do not build directly over a productive root. Placing something on its spawn point can prevent the node from returning. If you want a nearby staging point, keep structures clear of every visible root location rather than covering the exact ground where the resource appeared.

Choose a farming target

Because each root always drops 2 Blightwood, you can calculate the minimum number of intact nodes before entering the swamp. Odd material costs require rounding up to the next whole root, leaving one spare Blightwood after the craft.

The Iron Pickaxe is the smallest listed equipment recipe using Blightwood: it needs 4, so two roots provide exactly the required wood. A Staff of Light needs 16, making eight roots the minimum for its Blightwood component. If you want more than one output, add their material costs before dividing by two. For example, a Blightwood Wand and Blightwood Shortbow require 14 Blightwood together, which means seven intact roots.

A full stack holds 99 Blightwood, while each piece has a weight of 1.0. You are unlikely to reach that stack limit during a short two-root or six-root trip, but the weight matters on a longer circuit. Decide on the intended recipe first so you know when the run has already produced enough material.

Every Blightwood crafting recipe

Blightwood supports ranged weapons, magic weapons, a shield, a tool, a weapon component, and Charcoal processing. The quantities below represent one crafting operation. Collecting enough Blightwood does not replace the other ingredients or the required crafting station.

Check the complete recipe before choosing the size of your farming run. Gathering 16 Blightwood for a Staff of Light will not complete the craft unless you also have its Wild Anima, Sapphire, Vault Shards, and Vault Core. The same applies to the six different recipes that use either 8 or 12 Blightwood: the wood total may be identical while the station and remaining ingredients are completely different.

Converting one Blightwood into Charcoal is supported at the Kiln, but it uses the same material needed by every listed equipment recipe. If your immediate goal is an Iron Pickaxe, bow, crossbow, wand, staff, shield, or maul component, reserve the calculated wood before processing any surplus into Charcoal.

Buying Blightwood instead

Beartach - The Merchant is listed as a seller of Blightwood at a cost of 9 Garou Chits. This gives you an alternative when you already have the currency and do not want to wait for root respawns. Compare that cost with your remaining requirement: gathering only two roots completes the four-Blightwood portion of an Iron Pickaxe, while the 16-Blightwood Staff of Light requires a much larger collection run.

Buying does not change the material's properties. Purchased Blightwood still has a weight of 1.0, stacks to 99, and works in the same recipes. The decision is therefore about spending Garou Chits versus spending time in Bloodblight Swamp, not about receiving a different grade of material.

Common Blightwood farming problems

The tree is not dropping Blightwood

Target the exposed root rather than the whole tree. The correct node is pale, projects near ground level, and disappears when harvested. If you are striking an ordinary trunk, move around the base and look for a distinct root node.

Also verify that you brought an iron logging axe or better. The Iron Pickaxe that appears in the recipe list is not a harvesting substitute, and a lower-tier logging tool should not be treated as the dependable requirement for the current version.

A large tree has no harvestable root

This is normal. Not every Blightwood tree has an exposed node. Check the next tree and watch for roots that are not visibly attached to a trunk. A productive circuit should cover several trees rather than repeatedly inspecting one empty base.

A previously harvested root has not returned

Allow three in-game days for the respawn. If that time has passed, check whether a structure or placed object covers the node's exact spawn point. Roots only respawn normally when nothing has been placed directly on that point.

Poison ends the trip too early

Brew multiple anti-poison potions before leaving your base and activate the first one immediately before entering the hazardous area. A weak potion lasts 300 seconds, so unnecessary wandering consumes a meaningful part of the protection window. Learn the root's appearance, gather from a compact group of trees, and leave before you are forced to manage poison and enemies at the same time.

The material total is always slightly short

Count roots rather than trees. Each intact root supplies 2 Blightwood, while a tree may have no exposed node at all. For an odd requirement such as the 7 Blightwood needed by an Ornate Maul Handle, plan for four roots and one leftover piece. For a 12-piece recipe, plan for six roots; for the Staff of Light, plan for eight.

A repeatable Blightwood farming loop

Start each run by choosing the exact craft and converting its Blightwood cost into a root count. Equip the iron logging axe, load several anti-poison potions onto your hotbar, and leave at least one spare dose at home. Enter Bloodblight Swamp with protection active, scan the bases of large trees for pale exposed roots, and collect 2 Blightwood from each node.

Stop once you have reached the target instead of extending the trip without a purpose. Keep every root spawn clear of structures, return home with the material, and complete the recipe at the correct station. When you need another batch, wait three in-game days and repeat the same circuit. This turns Blightwood from an uncertain swamp search into a predictable calculation: two logs per root, a known recipe total, and a fixed respawn interval.
